Greeting Bluejays!
Our Vision
The library should be an essential part of the school community. It is a place where students come to think, create, share, and grow. In the library, students will:
- gain new knowledge by thinking critically and solving problems;
- they will collaborate with others to achieve common goals;
- they will collect, organize, and share resources;
- they will explore their personal interests and employ a growth mindset; and
- they will learn how to act responsibly as a digital citizen.
Mission Statement
“The mission of AISD libraries is to nurture a lifelong appreciation of reading and learning by assuring that students and staff have opportunities for successful access, evaluation and use of information and literature.”

Meet Ms. Newton
Hello wonderful Bluejay families! I am excited to begin a new school year! This will be my 14th year teaching! I have been with AISD since 2010 and have been teaching at Blazier for 10 years! This will be my first year as a librarian! Can’t wait to see you in the Library! -Mrs. Newton
About the Librarian
Originally not from Austin though I have been here since I was five years old. I am a product of AISD having attended Menchaca Elementary, Lively and Bailey Middle Schools, and Austin High. After graduating, I attended UT Austin where I received my Bachelor’s of Science in Applied Learning and Development. Committed to my young family, I chose to wait to begin my career and returned to begin teaching a few years later. In 2013, I received my Master’s of Education in Reading from Texas State University. I am currently working on my Librarian Certification at Sam Houston State University. I am a strong proponent of lifelong learning and aim to instill this in all my students. I live in one of our school communities with my husband and 5 children. All of my kiddos have attended Blazier. I still have one in 4th grade and one in Kinder. The others are in college and high school.
My Favorites:
- Colors: Purple and Teal
- Sports Team: LONGHORNS Hook ‘em!
- Drinks: Coffee and Diet Coke
- Collection: um, do plants count?
- Author: Mo Willems and Colleen Hoover
- Activity: Tubing
In my free time I like to read, craft, and hang out with my family. I am a lover of plants and have hundreds, yes hundreds, in my home! I couldn’t be more thrilled to be able to share my love for reading with you all. The library is the heart of the school and I want everyone to feel welcome. Please feel free to reach out at any time! I can’t wait to see you in the library.
Meet Ms. Harris
Hi Bluejays! I am excited to be part of the Blazier community and can't wait to get to know you all. This will be my second year with AISD, and I know it's going to be great! -Mrs. Harris
About the Librarian
I was born and raised in a small town on the Gulf coast called Port Lavaca, but after graduating from the University of Texas, I, my husband, and our pup Huckleberry moved to Florida, then Germany, and then Norway. After having a little one in 2018, we wanted to be closer to family, so we came back to where it all started – Austin! Amidst all the moving, I have taught middle and high school English while also getting my Master’s in Information Science.
Overseas, I was the program coordinator at a research library. When we moved back to Texas, I worked for Dell Medical School library while full-time mom-ing and working on my school librarian certification. I was the Travis Heights Elementary librarian for 21-22 and had an awesome experience and am now starting my second year with the Blazier community where my daughter is set to be a future Bluejay.
My hobbies include jigsaw puzzles, reading (of course!), and taking care of my many plant babies. On the weekends, you will probably find my family getting breakfast tacos, hitting up any playgrounds with shade or a splash pad (this heat! 😅), and/or treating ourselves to bubble tea. Most importantly, I am fully committed to help our Bluejays become lifelong learners and readers! Please come visit and see what we have to offer!
Meet Ms. Rahn
Hello Bluejay community! I am the library aide for both primary and intermediate campuses. I am also a board member on the Blazier PTA (please reach out to me if you would like to join, we would love to have you)! I am filled with positive energy and cannot wait to introduce the students to the wonderful world of learning and personal growth through reading.
Our family moved to Austin from Chicago suburbs last summer and we are still trying our best to adjust to the heat. My husband, our two children, and our dog Babcock enjoy trying new restaurants, hiking, watching movies, and swimming. We also love to travel, especially to the beach.
I have been training our Australian Labradoodle as a service animal and he is very much intertwined in our family. You may notice him at drop-off or pick-up, and who knows, you may even see him in school!
I spent the first decade of my career as a nurse for various insurance companies, and I am so excited to begin this new journey. I have a passion for special education and I hope to provide a space of comfort, acceptance, and inclusion for each and every student. I feel so blessed to be part of the Blazier community; it truly is one of a kind.
